What is art & how can it impact us
‘The Arts ‘ cover diverse categories encapsulating music, theatre, dance, sculpture and many other forms in this field. . All aspects of art contain an essential ingredient , creativity. This is something as humans we have within us, some to a greater degree than others. Our emotional response to a piece of art that appeals to us is only surpassed by the emotion invested by the artist. But , we live in a technical world where our environment and all it contains is blanked out by whatever device demands our attention be it fit bit, mobile phone or iPad. In todays world , art and the way it feeds our inner soul could not be more important.
How one aspect of art, painting, can have a positive effect in a frenetic world.
Appreciation of a picture be it a landscape, a wonderful sunset or a cumulus of cloud in a stormy sky can evoke an extremely personal response. It gives us a moment to breathe, out of our lives , whilst we observe and absorb what is before us. There are many other paintings of everyday objects that evoke a response too but for this article I’m considering recordings of the natural environment which we tend to be oblivious to simply because its there.
Observing a painting allows our eyes to drink in the artists interpretation of a scene. There are so many subtle aspects to the world that we can’t take in at a glance but what the artist creates gives us the opportunity to still our selves whilst we absorb the beauty, poignancy or infinitely tiny indications on canvas created by wonderfully crafted light, color and form. A symphony for the soul. The best medication any of us could achieve.
